Sponsored by: Monticello Rotary, Monticello High School & Workforce Center
1. Career Day Purpose and Description Career Day is an informational program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors conducted by the Rotary and Monticello High School, along with support from the individual volunteers representing career interest areas. The primary objective of Career Day is to provide interested students with the opportunity to discuss career related information with people currently employed in the student’s career interest area and/or with a related learning institution.
A majority of careers represented at Career Day 2017 were selected on the basis of interest expressed by students.

3. Career Day Preparation
Each of the (3) sessions will be limited to approximately 50 minutes
Group Session
A group session consists of a scheduled meeting of career reps (generally representing related career areas) with several students who wish to obtain information in that general interest area. For example, five representatives from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and National Guard will hold a group session in the general interest area of military service.
When introducing yourself to the group, please include the following:
1. A brief description of their position and responsibilities.
2. Some specifics about your education background, where you attended high school, and other schools attended.
Please discuss the following in the break-out sessions:
1. Education requirements
2. Career opportunities
3. Specific examples of what you do (or have done) to give the students a better knowledge of the real world
4. Special designations or exams required in your field.
5. Trends of employment in your field
6. Work environment
7. Hours of operation
8. Geographic employment considerations
9. Salaries: starting, salary progressions, bonuses, overtime, etc.
Each Session should be limited to address the needs of the greatest number of students who can be accommodated in the time frame. You will have 5 minutes to cover these topics. With a short question and answer period after all reps have completed their presentation. If students have additional questions they wish to pursue, they may want to set up an appointment with the rep.
4. Career Reps – We need your feedback!
In order to improve this program for future use, it is important that we receive your feedback following completion of Career Day. Please complete and return the form, which is attached to the back of this guide. A collection point for completed forms will be provided at the close of Career Day. You may also return the form by faxing to 763-272-0425.
Special Needs: Visual aids are not required, but may help students learn about your career interest. If you need special equipment (i.e.: overhead projector, marker boards, etc) please call the High School Counseling office – 763-272-3019 – before Career Day. You are encouraged to bring handouts or giveaways, but not required. You will not be able to do Powerpoint or electronic presentations.
