Description
“Local Heroes Days” is set for August 19 through the 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Monticello RV Center.
(KNSI) – A first-ever three-day event to honor local heroes in Central Minnesota will take place in Monticello next month.
The first annual “Local Heroes Days” will be a free event for the public and local heroes, including law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, past and present military members, educators, and medical workers.
Director of Local Heroes Days Scott Kunz talked with KNSI News about why he wanted to start this event.
“There’s just not enough recognition given to these people in a positive light. This really gives us an opportunity to recognize the predominance of these people that are going to work every day and working beyond their paygrade.”
He says it’s a community event honoring local heroes with the chance for the public to interact.
“We need this right now. We just need to recognize these people. It just has to do with an appreciation for what these people do for our communities.”
He says there will be participation from Sherburne and Wright county sheriffs deputies, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota National Guard, all local veterans agencies, and more.
Between $15,000 and $20,000 in prizes will be handed out to Heroes who attend via a drawing. There will be 500 t-shirts handed to the first 500 heroes in attendance.
More than 20 vehicles will be set up for the public, including police cruisers, fire trucks, army equipment, and a North Memorial Helicopter.
Any of the kids who come in and meet the Police officers in attendance will get a free root beer float just to meet them.
There will be free food, including burgers, brats, and sweet corn, for all who attend.
“Local Heroes Days” is set for August 19 through the 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Monticello RV Center.
The RV dealership will be closed so it can host the event.
Kunz bought the dealership in 2016 and opened a new six-acre facility in March of 2020.
